125 125 – 150 These were all taken after the war ended, when 8 Wing was based at Udine, northern Italy. The Berchtesgaden photos confirm what Jack Parsonson’s book says…..he, Vic Bester and a chappie named Jimmy Franks went on a trip through the Alps by Jeep to Austria, and went to the Nazi hideouts looking for souvenirs. They saw the SS barracks, Hitler’s house (Eagle’s Nest) and other places, all basically destroyed. Berchtesgaden had been stripped but they found some wine glasses and a wash basin etc.

149 Schneider trophy sea planes
Macchi MC 72, still holds the world speed record for piston-engined seaplanes. I saw this one, the only survivor, at the Italian AF Museum outside Rome, it’s one of the most beautiful planes I've ever seen….breathtaking. http://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-articles/macchi-castoldi-m-c-72-worlds-fastest-piston-powered-seaplane.html
The Italians hid this one during the war, the Schneider Trophy Races ended in 1931. This specific plane set the world speed record at Lake Garda in 1933….so this photo was taken somewhere around there, where it had been hidden during the war.
